HTML5 <thead> Tag

The HTML <thead> element is used to define a set of rows defining the head of the columns of the table.

The only content permitted inside this element is zero or more <tr> elements. The start tag is mandatory for this element. The end tag may be omitted if the <thead> element is immediately followed by a <tbody> or <tfoot> element. The parent of the <thead> tag can only be a <table> element. The <thead> must appear after any <caption> or <colgroup> element, even implicitly defined, but before any <tbody>, <tfoot> and <tr> element.

The following style is applied to this element by default:

thead {
  display: table-header-group;
  vertical-align: middle;
  border-color: inherit;


This element only accepts global attributes.
