HTML5 <figcaption> Tag

The HTML <figcaption> tag is used to represent a caption or a legend associated with a figure or an illustration described by the rest of the data of the <figure> element which is its immediate ancestor.

The only content permitted inside this element is flow content. Both the starting and ending tag are mandatory for this element. The parent of the <figcaption> tag can only be a <figure> element. Moreover, the <figcaption> element must be its first or last child.

The following style is applied to this element by default:

figcaption {
  display: block;
}

Attributes

This element only accepts global attributes.
